2012 JC Buendia 25th Anniversary

JC Buendia celebrated his 25th year in the fashion industry with a tribute fashion gala by Metro Society at Grand Ballroom Marriott Hotel, Manila on 27th of August 2012.

He is the current President of Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines, a Filipino fashion icon, a favorite of celebrities and high society.

~ Mini Trivia ~ 

How I love to remember a very promising classmate and a dear friend JC Buendia in our College years as Fine Arts Major in Interior Design students at the University of Santo Tomas.

Let me share a few of my many favorite things about this young man. In our classroom, we admired this young man who loves to draw his creative fashion ideas in his notebooks even in our academic subjects. Mind you, as we were all beginners, he was already good in drawing his models. He has an eye for beauty and proportion.

Another one was his skill in sewing, it was seen as early as those days when he was making dresses for our classmate Arene San Gregorio's Barbie Dolls. Arene and our other friends were willing to pay him for those miniature creations. He made extra money from that.

All amateurs have their own untold stories, the very inspired young man had a passion to achieve his beautiful dream. They said, when your heart is in your dream, it will come to you and with his pure heart and his passion and hard work that has brought him to the top.

Eduardo Barrios Manzano was born on September 14, 1955 in San Francisco, California to Filipino parents. Due to his parentage (jus sanguinis) and the place of his birth (jus soli), he is both a citizen of the Philippines and the United States under the constitutions of both countries. At the age of 17, Manzano joined the United States armed forces, serving for four years.

Manzano moved to the Philippines to pursue a full-time career with the local movie industry.

Manzano served as president of the actors’ group Kapisanan ng mga Artista sa Pelikulang Pilipino in the 1990s.

He was part of ABS-CBN's roster of contract actors until he took a leave in order to run for vice president of the Philippines in the 2010 elections. However, he has stated that he is no longer interested in returning to show business but is interested to take on hosting current affairs programs.

Manzano recently signed a contract and returns to GMA Network. In 2010, he hosted the pre-noontime game show Asar Talo Lahat Panalo! and he is scheduled to host two new game/talent shows this 2011 after months of hiatus on TV, he hosts Family Feud: The Showdown Edition since April 2011 until July but Edu is now defected to TV5 to have a new TV show entitled Game N Go.

Manzano entered politics in 1998 when he ran for Vice Mayor of Makati City. He garnered a majority of votes in the election, but his proclamation was suspended due to a case filed which alleged that he was not a citizen of the Philippines. The Comelec eventually ruled that he was indeed a Filipino citizen, clearing the way for his proclamation as Vice Mayor. Following a three-year term, he ran an unsuccessful campaign for Mayor of Makati City in 2001, losing to Jejomar Binay.

In 2004, Manzano became the first chairman of the Optical Media Board, a government agency tasked with combating optical media piracy. He resigned the position in August 2009.

Manzano ran as the Lakas-Kampi-CMD's candidate for Vice President in the May 2010 election as the running mate of presidential candidate Gilbert Teodoro. He eventually lost to Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay and finished fifth. Manzano is the co-founder of the non-profit advocacy organization called Ako Mismo.

Father Larry Faraon OP and Me.

His sermons speak the sometimes bitter truth about themselves as Christians. Make no mistake, Fr. Larry, a much sought-after homilist, retreat master and spiritual adviser to many celebrities, has a maverick side that dishes out humorous sermons you don't often hear. His gift with words strikes at the core of human frailties by using funny realities. If delivering homilies were an academic degree, he would be our candidate for summa cum laude!

I love hearing his stories and his 1st time mission in UAE at St. Mary's Church.

The conservative may not agree with the style by which Fr. Larry preaches, he uses self deprecating humor to spice up his homilies. Once, while explaining ancient religious customs related to eating pork, he punctuated a sermon with: Noong maliit pa ako, sinasabihan ako ng nanay ko, pag nakita niya akong marumi, Maglinis ka nga! Ang babuy-baboy mo! E, payat pa ako noon!

Father Larry Faraon, OP 

Born Laureano Balverde Faraon on July 4, 1956 in Biñan, Laguna, he took up philosophy and theology at UST, where he earned his Master's degree in religious education (specializing in media).

Now on his 25th year as a priest, his ministry has taken him to the US, Israel, Oman, Bahrain, Yemen, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Saipan, Guam, United Arab Emirates, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Brunei.

Often described as, show biz! because of his association with famous personalities and his work in the media, the popular priest has been actively involved in social communication, as commentator (for Radio Veritas), columnist, TV host, and professor of theology and communications at the University of Santo Tomas, La Consolacion and Miriam College.

Despite his intimation that he would have been a social activist had he not entered the priesthood, he personifies patience and humility. Indeed, his homilies are a breath of fresh air. He makes church going something to look forward to!

As a Preacher ~ Fr. Larry uses such comic spiels in his homilies,

He said: I would rather talk to a laughing audience than one who is won't to doze off. We should enjoy and love our work and this is one way by which I enjoy mine as a priest and preacher.

In a mass honoring the motherhood of Mary (celebrated on New Year's day), Fr. Larry has this to say (to women and their good-for-nothing husbands) about parenthood: Hindi inyo ang inyong mga anak. Alin ang inyo? 'Yang asawa ninyo, kaya pagtiyagaan nyo yang mga yan! 

While saying mass, Fr. Larry explained a gospel account in which Jesus asked the disciples who they believed He was. Alluding to many Catholics ignorance of the Bible, he asked: Kilala ba natin si Kristo? Mas kilala pa yata natin si Kris Aquino!

In one of the siete palabras rites at the Sto. Domingo church, he reminded people to mind their oral hygiene whenever they would go to confession: May  mangungumpisal diyan, pabulong: Father, may kasalanan po ako. Mag-toothbrush naman kayo! Kayo ang may kasalanan, kami ang inyong pinaparusahan.
