Rosemarie "Baby" Arenas
Prominent Manila society figure and Philanthropist
Rosemarie Bosch Jimenez-Arenas, more popularly known as Baby Arenas, is a philanthropist, businesswoman, patron of the arts and culture, and high-profile figure in Manila's society scene. She made headlines when she successfully produced the Philippine concerts of world-renowned tenors, Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocceli.
Ms. Arenas takes pride in her philanthropic work more than her status in society circles. The Padre Pio Lend-a-Hand Foundation is the flagship organization of her charity work and became her passion after her separation from her husband. Although the foundation was established by her mother, she continued its operation and made it her mission to make life more bearable for the poor, especially the street children.
One of the highlights of her philanthropic work was the staging of the concerts of renowned tenors, Pavarotti and Bocceli, in the Philippines. The proceeds of the concerts benefited the foundation as well as other institutions that cater to the underprivileged. She also stressed that inviting world-class performers to the Philippines was one way of bringing a supposed elitist art form closer to Filipinos. She added that the concerts also proved that the Philippines is a peaceful and politically-stable country.
